I am waiting to hear if I have been offered a passport grant. Can I wait until the scholarship announcements to renew my passport?
Our $160 passport grants are awarded on a rolling basis and help to cover the up-front costs of your passport application. You can apply for a passport grant through your student portal as soon as you submit your initial application and will hear back within 2 weeks about your award. Our passport grants are not retroactive, and cannot be used to reimburse costs. So, it is recommended to wait to apply for your passport until you hear back from CIS Abroad about your passport grant. You will receive a check to your home address made out to the U.S. Department of State that should be used to pay for your passport application. First-time passport applicants are responsible for covering the additional $35 execution fee. There is no fee for passport renewals. Read more about the passport grant
